President Obama and former Governor Mitt Romney will provide America's next miniseries.
Nearly 220 million people tuned in to watch the 2012 London Olympic Games, which means the gamers were the most watched event in US television history.
That means that now there are 220 million Americans who have to figure out what to do with their remote now that the Games have ended.
Fortunately, Americans now have their next miniseries to watch with the ramp up of the 2012 Presidential campaign.
Already, the ads are filling the air on both sides and the networks are scrambling around the country to every fair, festival and fundraiser waiting for something to happen.
Something always does happen; in fact it happens every day. Soundbites are dissected, replayed, analyzed and parsed while the candidates tiptoe through the minefield of the 24-hour news cycle.
CBS can claim the first victory of the campaign season. The network was able to secure the first interview with Mitt Romney and his freshly minted running mate Paul Ryan. The network has also scored by having Chief Washington correspondent Bob Schieffer moderate one of the three Presidential debates. He is the only representative of the big three networks to get the high profile gig.
The other two debates will be moderated by CNN’s Candy Crowley, who becomes the first female in five cycles to moderate a Presidential debate and PBS’s Jim Lehrer who says this cycle will be his last on the debate desk.
Fortunately, thanks to new safeguards in the election night projections, viewers will not get another disastrous repeat of the 2000 election night when the networks called the race, uncalled it, and called it again.
Hopefully, when election night comes around this year Americans will know who won the gold for good the first time.
